Sterling Bank debuts new acting competition - The Spirited Actor

Nigerians complain of discrimination in Mumbai, India

Africans staying in and around India's commercial capital, Mumbai (Bombay), complain of indiscriminate racism and constant police harassment, reports the BBC's Zubair Ahmed.

Nigerian Sambo Davis is married to an Indian woman and lives in Mumbai. All his documents are valid, but he was arrested by the police recently on suspicion of being a drug dealer.

He and 30 other black Africans were detained for hours before they were let off with an apology.
But the following day, Mr Davis said that he was shocked to read in local newspapers that they were "arrested for drug peddling".

"The police treat us Africans like dogs," he says. Mr Davis claims he often faces discrimination when he goes to restaurants or when he tries to rent an apartment in gated middle-class communities.

Reebok drops Rick Ross after date rape lyric controversy

It's finally happened. Athletic wear company Reebok has officially dropped Rick Ross as the face of Reebok Classic in the wake of controversy over lyrics he contributed to the Rocko tune "U.O.E.N.O,
where the Maybach Music mogul boasted about drugging and raping a woman. He spit:

“Put Molly (Ecstasy) all in the champagne. She ain’t even know it. I took her home and I enjoy that. She ain’t even know it.”

Rape survivors and women right groups launched a petition and media campaign asking Reebok to drop the rapper, despite his many apologies. Reebok released a statement today saying:

"Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so."Reebok goes on: "While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse." Lesson learnt!

Meet the First Lady and First Lady of Iceland: Johanna and Jonina

Iceland's lesbian PM is the world's first openly gay Prime Minister. Icelandic PM, Johanna Sigurdardottir, and her "wife" of 13 years, Jonina Leosdottir are the First Lady and First Lady of Iceland. Johanna Sigurdardottir is Iceland's longest serving Member of Parliament (MP) and also the country's first female to be Prime Minister (PM).

In 2002, at the age of 60, Johanna Sigurdardottir married Jonina Leosdottir, a writer, in a civil ceremony. Three decades ago, she was an air stewardess and union official, and the mother of two sons married to a banker. Same-sex marriage was legalized in Iceland in 2010.

I would like to know if there are other men out there who think their wives are into women? I think mine is. I went through her blackberry the other day and I couldn't believe the BB chat I read between her and someone I thought was just her friend. Another married woman for that matter. Their chat was of a sexual nature, something you would expect between a man and a woman. This lady even sent photos of her boobs and private parts to my wife.

I eventually confronted my wife about it and she said they were just joking around. Who jokes around with p**sy photos? What should I do now?

Expect more power cuts, minister tells Nigerians

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, on Wednesday said there would be more power cuts in the days ahead due to ongoing maintenance works on installations across the country.

Nebo, while explaining why there was a sharp drop in power supply at a briefing in Abuja, said the country lost 1,112 megawatts of generated electricity in two days due to the shutdown of the Chevron gas plant.

He said, “A few days ago, precisely last week Friday, Chevron shut down its gas plant for maintenance purposes, which was to take place between Friday and Saturday. And the technical crew in the power sector knew about the shutdown and this was in order to make sure that damages are not done before losing the gas entirely.

Cancer patient Funmi Lawal dies

I'm sure you all remember her. Funmi Lawal is the UNILAG law graduate who was diagnosed with malignant sarcoma, a kind of cancer at the shoulder region, who we raised money for on LIB last year. She's the same lady music producer, Don Jazzy donated N2million to. You can read more about herHERE, HERE and HERE

Funmi's left arm had to be amputated in January 2013 to save her life...unfortunately she still didn't make it. She died this morning at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. The cancer had spread to her lungs and she had completely lost the ability to breathe without a respirator. May her soul rest in peace...amen

Leadership Newspaper vs The Presidency! The saga continues...

To understand what this is about, let me give you a brief summary. Four Leadership newspaper journalists published something they said was a presidential directive on ACN on their website (find it HERE), a few days later, police stormed their office in Abuja and picked them up. Group Managing Director of the newspapers, Azubuike Ishiekwene, said presidency ordered their arrest. The reporters were detained for 48 hours before being released. But two of them, Mr. Tony Amokeodo and Mr. Chibuzo Ukaibe (pictured above) were released conditionally. They have been asked to report at the police headquarters by 10am every day for undisclosed reasons. See Leadership statement about their detention and release HERE

The police wanted the journalist to reveal the source of their story...which claimed that the presidency was planning to scuttle the merger of APC and target key leaders of the emerging political party.

The journalists arrested are: Mrs. Chinyere Fred-Adegbulugbe, the director of human capital; Mr. Chuks Ohuegbe, managing editor; Mr. Tony Amokeodo, the group news editor; and Mr. Chibuzor Ukaibe, a political reporter.

The presidency has released a statement concerning the matter via presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati. Find the statement after the cut...

New study shows women prefer well-endowed men

Before? Lol. According The NY Post, a new study not only shows that women prefer well-endowed men, but suggests this actually may have contributed to the lengthening of penises over time.

“We found that flaccid penis size had a significant influence on male attractiveness,” the University of Ottawa study says.
And, based on that finding, “female mate choice could have played a role in the evolution of the relatively large human male penis.”

Four church leaders killed in Borno State

Four church leaders of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) located in Gwoza village in Borno state were killed on Monday April 8th by gunmen believed to be members of Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The four men identified as Iliya Tada, Ayuba Yusuf, Idris Dogo and a fourth victim were gunned down while resting near the church premises after a service. Their attackers rode into the church in a bike and opened fire. The dead men were buried today

While talking about her new novel Americanah, with Kate Kellaway of The Observer, award winning author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie said black women should embrace their natural hair. When asked to give an honest description of her hair and what it says about her, Chimamanda replied:

That is the best question! My hair is in tiny cornrows; I have a big ponytail on the top of my head. I quite like it. It is natural. I am a bit of a fundamentalist when it comes to black women's hair. Hair is hair – yet also about larger questions: self-acceptance, insecurity and what the world tells you is beautiful. For many black women, the idea of wearing their hair naturally is unbearable.

Driver allegedly rapes 15-year-old housemaid, blames the devil

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a driver, Olusegun Ajayi, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old housemaid in Arepo, Ogun State.

The NSCDC authorities said the suspect had canal knowledge of the girl which caused her to bleed for two days.

Ajayi, however, told Punch Metro that his act was not rape since the victim consented. The suspect, who claimed to be a devout Christian, said he did not know the victim prior to the incident.

The new place called Zion Centre is located on Water Corporation Drive, off Ligali Ayorinde in Victoria Island. It was dedicated on Sunday April 7th which was also Pastor Ighodalo's 52nd birthday.

Power Generation drops by 1,074MW

The poor supply of electricity being witnessed across the country currently is as a result of a significant drop in power generation from a peak of 4,517 megawatts attained on December 21, 2012 to 3,443MW on Tuesday April 9th.

The drop in power generation, according to the Ministry of Power, was as a result of low gas supply to thermal power plants.

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, yesterday April 9th, commissioned the newly-constructed Ikeja Millemium Housing Estate, which he named after former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku.
